I take as ‘given’ that alcohol, tobacco, processed food and sedentary lives all induce sickness. My second ‘given’ is that the NHS is a massive, taxable, machine that is really the NRS (National Repair Service) delivering mended individuals back to the same sickening society that, previously, made them ill. When finally broken, the individual is moved to ‘Storage Unto Death’ another taxable maw that consumes and employs.
If WELLBEING were the Westminster measure of successful governance (not just an occasional Dave dalliance) the whole of society would be differently configured.
I arrived at the above before being made aware of this:
Dalai Lama When Asked What Surprised Him Most About Humanity
The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered “Man…. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” (Source unknown)
With respect: he might have added that those who strive to gain power over their fellows (Westminster) perversely exploit this weakness to enhance their power.
